Does it hurt?
I try my best to not hurt anyone. There may be some slight cramping, a distended feeling, electric sensation, itching, or stinging. The effect should not last for more than a few seconds and then lessens. If the pain lasts for a length of time, it is important to tell me.
What does acupuncture treat?
The World Health Organization recently published a study that listed the following disorders are aided by the use of acupuncture: Gastrointestinal Disorders - such as, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, gas, bloating, and ulcers to name a few. Respiratory Disorders : Asthma, shortness of breath, frequent colds, bronchitis, and pneumonia. Gynecological disorders : dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, infertility, fibroids, cysts, menopausal symptoms, and endometriosis are greatly helped by this treatment. Muscular Disorders : most pain is alleviated with acupuncture (in my experience). Nervous System Disorders : migraines, headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, and other nerve pain may be alleviated. Depression, anxiety, low energy, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia symptoms may also be lessened.
What are the needles like?
The needles are thin sterile, solid stainless steel. They are the diameter of a few hairs, so they are very thin. Most needles come individually packaged with a guide tube and are immediately disposed of in a sharps container after use. The needles, because they are solid are designed to slide in to the skin, lessening the pain.
How deep do the needles go?
Depending on the main complaint the depth varies. If a person is coming in with sciatica, the needles will need to go a bit deeper in the gluteal region. Usually needles are inserted 1/4 of an inch to very shallow contact needling to over an inch in other regions. All point selections depend on the age, strength, and overall health of a person.
How many treatments will I need?
The answer to this question depends on how long the issue has been present, the severity of the problem, and the intensity of the disease. For acute conditions, one may feel better immediately, and for more chronic issues- 5-15 treatments may be required.
